Love and Duty is now a 2023 Goldie Finalist with the Golden Crown Literary Society for the categories of Debut Novel and Science Fiction/Fantasy. As a first-time author, this is a big accomplishment for me.
I am a little surprised that Love and Duty is a finalist in the Debut Novel category. When I submitted it, I wasn’t sure how well a science fiction novel would do against novels from other genres. I knew I would only ever get one debut novel gave, so I decided to give it a shot. I’m glad the judges liked Love and Duty enough to make it a finalist.
I am very pleased that Love and Duty is a finalist in the Science Fiction/Fantasy category, especially because my competition includes some of my favorite authors. I’m a fan of Barbara Ann Wright’s Pyramid Waltz series and she’s also my editor at Bold Strokes Books. I haven’t read her new book, The Mage and the Monster yet, but it’s on my list.
I love pretty much everything Jane Fletcher has ever written, and her most recent book, A Fox in Shadow, is wonderful. With Endurance by Elaine Burnes and Scatter by Molly J Bragg also in the running, I don’t think I’m going to be winning a Goldie in this category, but I feel honored to be included.
The awards ceremony will be at the 2023 Golden Crown Literary Society Conferences in Denver this July. I was already planning to attend GCLS this year, but having a book in the running is going to make the awards ceremony a lot more exciting for me.
Congratulations!
Congratulation!!
